March 2026 – Moorgate

Finsbury Circus Gardens by David Hersey

Saturday 21st March 2026 – 11:00 – 15:30

Led by David Hersey and Dean Ashton

In March, we head East to sketch the streets, and parks, around Moorgate.

Moorgate is a prominent district in the City of London, functioning as a major financial hub. Once a medieval gate in the London Wall, it is now characterised by a blend of historic architecture and contemporary glass office buildings

Moorgate’s blend of ancient history and sleek modernism makes it a prime location for urban sketching, particularly on quiet weekends when the district’s architectural details are more accessible.

Practical Information

Toilets

The only known weekend toilets are at London Liverpool Street Station, which is a 5 minute walk from our meeting point. Ladies – please note the queues may be busier than normal on weekends.

Accessible toilets are on platform level near the entrance to the toilet blocks.

Marks & Spencer’s (M&S, 70 Finsbury Pavement, EC2A 1SA) also reports on their website as having a toilet option. (unverified)

Travel

Moorgate is a major rail junction serving the Circle Line, Metropolitan Line, Hammersmith & City line, Northern Line, Northern City/Great Northern National Rail Lines, and the newly developed Elizabeth Line. If taking the Elizabeth Line, the station is marked ‘Liverpool Street’. Take either the Liverpool Street Exit or the Moorgate Exit. Our meeting point, at Finsbury Circus, is equidistant between the two station exits. (see toilet note above)

Food and Drink: Many cafes and coffee shops remain open on Saturday. There is also an ‘M&S Food’ at ‘Finsbury Pavement’ (EC2A 1SA) serving supermarket priced lunch items (i.e. sandwiches, crisps, snacks, drinks).
