Urban Sketchers (USk) London will invite artists to display their artwork (subject to selection) of London drawn on location, at the open exhibition at The Art Pavilion, Mile End Park, Clinton Road, London, E3 4QY from Saturday 22nd to Sunday 30th of March 2025.

The exhibition is planned, organised and will be run purely on a volunteer basis. On behalf of the admin team, we’re grateful for your time and effort to making this event a success.

All Volunteers:

Please arrive on time and contact a member of the admin team if you have problems on the day – we will issue numbers closer to the event.
We would like to add you to the Exhibition Volunteer’s What’s App group – please confirm in the questionnaire above that you allow us to do so.

The following tasks will be covered by the volunteering team:

  1. Receiving and hanging art work. Admin leads (minimum of 2) will be available for help, advice and to lead the 2 days.
  2. Stewarding – a minimum of 2 volunteers per shift will be required to cover the entrance and 2 rear exits to the venue with 2 shifts per day. In addition to the ensuring safety, the volunteers are expected to engage with the visitors and encourage them to take part in the ongoing activities.
  3. Sales desk duties – a minimum of 1 volunteer per shift with 2 shifts (10.30am-2.30pm and 2pm-6pm). Full instructions/training will be given on taking/processing payments and recording sales.
  4. Sketch walk leads will brief the participants on the location, sketching options and general health and safety aspects as required before each sketch walk. We would be grateful for any volunteers who are familiar with the specific areas on the list, and those who are willing to gather information/sketches prior to the event in order to facilitate the participants.
  5. Stewarding the communal artwork bench(es) – there will be paper and art materials provided for the communal artwork activities. The volunteers are expected to encourage visitors to take part and draw together with them as required.
  6. Sketching demonstrations are expected to adhere to Urban Sketchers manifesto:
    • We draw on location, indoors or out, capturing what we see from direct observation (demos from reference photos or screens/screen shots are not acceptable)
    • Our drawings tell the story of our surroundings, the places we live, and where we travel. We capture not just buildings and landmarks, but the fleeting moments, the everyday lives, and the human connections that weave the fabric of our cities.
    • Our drawings are a record of time and place. Our sketches become snapshots of a city in constant flux, capturing the essence of a moment that can never be replicated.
    • We are truthful to the scenes we witness. We strive to represent the world around us honestly, with all its imperfections and unexpected beauty.
    • We use any kind of media and cherish our individual styles. There is no one right way to urban sketch. We embrace the diversity of techniques and perspectives that make our community so vibrant.
    • We support each other and draw together. This is not a solitary pursuit. We learn from each other, share inspiration, and encourage one another to keep sketching.
    • We share our drawings online. We believe that the art of urban sketching should be accessible to everyone. By sharing our work, we hope to inspire others to see the world with new eyes.
    • We show the world, one drawing at a time. Through our sketches, we offer a unique perspective on the cities we love, connecting people across cultures and borders.
